Honeymoon pics.

We went on a week-long trip to South Western Alaska.

While we were promised rain, we were lucky enough to see almost nothing but warm, fairly dry weather. The trip was great and, having seen glaciers, forests, bears, eagles, otters and salmon on their way up-stream, we left feeling quite satisfied. We even talked about how nice it would be to live there, but that was during the 18+ hours of July sunlight. We'll have to visit again in the winter to give it a fair assessment.

Pics are here.

We Did It!

It was a beautiful day spent with friends and family. Luckily the weather cooperated and only became gusty after the ceremony. Made for lively photos! We're sifting through many pictures taken by our friend Linda. In the meantime enjoy a few taken by Christine Bourgeois here:

Big happy sun this week.

The weather is nice here this week. We look forward to seeing you all under sunny skies. But beach fog is always a real possibility, so bring a sweater too.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 50.

Santa Barbara Guides

There's a comprehensive overview of Santa Barbara restaurants, hotels, things to do, places to see, restaurants to enjoy at www.santabarbara.com.

And here are a few personal suggestions:

Coffee Shop
Northstar Coffee 918 State St, Santa Barbara - In a primary location on State Street, this coffee shop has a relaxing
ambiance and delicious coffees and chai teas. Though a little on the spendy side for their food items, the food is of high quality. Antara & Delilah have played here often, and its open in the evening.

Restaurants
Mexican Food
Los Arroyos 14 W. Figueroa - Great food, medium prices. Basic atmosphere

Vegetarian/Fresh/One of our favorites!
Sojourner 134 E. Canon Perdido - Just two blocks off state street twd the mountains, this is a SB gem if you are looking for healthy, primarily vegetarian faire with a laid back atmosphere and moderate prices.

Italian
Pascuccis 729 State Street - Always crowded, this Italian restaurant has great food, moderate prices, quick service, and garlic bread that will stay with you the whole day and into the next, so make sure whoever you're with has some too!

Thai
Mesa Thai Cuisine 1819 Cliff Drive - Less than 5 minutes drive from Antara & Roy's place on the mesa, this is a
delicious thai restaurant, despite the funky 'strip mall' feel of the location.

Night Life

Blue Agave 20 E. Cota Street - A block off lower state street at Cota, Blue Agave has an elegant, intimate, yet hip atmosphere. Delicious food as well, though plan to spend some time and money. Crowd seems to be anywhere from mid 20s to 50s.

Soho 1221 State St, Santa Barbara - SB's best music venue where Antara & Delilah have played on numerous occasions, as well as many big names. Crowd is 30s-50s. Drive up Chapala and enter the parking lot between Anapamu and Victoria (right
hand side). This places you on the flip side of State Street, approaching the back of businesses. Soho is above the post office on the second floor.

There are a plethora of bars in SB for every taste. So have fun!

Outdoors

Hendry's Beach (Arroyo Burro Beach) - Just down the hill from the bride and grooms home, this is a local favorite, especially if you have a dog. Take the Las Positas exit off the freeway and head toward the beach, take a right on Cliff and less than 1/4 of a mile, you will take a left into the beach parking lot (if you head uphill you've gone too far)

West & East Beach and Shoreline Park on Cabrillo Street - Take the Castillo exit off the freeway and head away from SB toward
beach. Stay in center lane and proceed straight to Cabrillo. Take a left to hit the wharf, and a right to head up the hill past the harbor and to Shoreline Park. Continue on this road and you will end up on the mesa at the corner of Carrillo and Cliff Drive. The wharf and paved biking and walking path are quite nice and very well visited. Shoreline Park is rather brief, but has beautiful views of the ocean and islands on a clear day.

Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens 1212 Mission Canyon Road - Approximately 5 Minutes drive from the Santa Barbara mission, a beautiful place for a little walk and getaway into a natural and peaceful setting. If you are into plants, this is for you.

Culture
Santa Barbara Museum of Art 1130 State Street - Great museum and not too overwhelming in size. Free on Sundays.
Rufino Tomayo exhibit through May 27th.

Friday Picnic

For those of you coming in to Santa Barbara early, please join us for a picnic, play and petanque (a french game like horseshoes) in Chase Palm Park on Friday, April 13, noon to 3pm.

Chase Palm Park
223 E Cabrillo Blvd

Meet us on the side of the park closest to Garden Street. We'll be near the carousel, probably on blankets on the grass or playing petanque. There are a couple parking lots right in the area.

The countdown begins!

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for signing up for this blog. We will use this method to let you all know of any interesting wedding developments along the way. We are surely in the thick of the planning now and are very excited about things to come. April 14 will be a day for us all to remember!

Today we were joined by Antara's dad Karl and did a cake tasting at Boris Bakery on Milpas Street in Santa Barbara. Jose Fuentes, the owner and baker extraordinaire, took some time to make some samples for us to try based on a very special requested flavor that is unusual in the cake world. Good friends of ours had a similarly flavored cake at their wedding back in Sept. 2001 and it was amazing! Jose presented us with four different cakes.
It was hard to choose! We're looking forward to the finished work.

Invitations were mailed out last Tuesday. Since then we've had a couple inquiries about where we are registered. We chose the following retail sources:
Macys.com - on-line or in-store
Surlatable.com - on-line or in-store
Amazon.com - on-line ordering only

Thank you in advance for your thoughfulness, support and love as we venture into a new phase of our lives.

Woo hoo! Yippee!!

Love,
Roy & Antara
